These 5 Trends Will Shape the Housing Market in 2017

If the U.S. economy is to hit escape velocity in 2017, you can expect the real estate sector to serve as its rocket fuel.

At its most broadly defined, housing can be counted on to compose 15% of GDP. It hasn't done that much heavy lifting lately, however. That's because in the wake of the real estate bubble, lending standards have remained tight, while the cautious builders who survived the crisis have been reluctant to dive headfirst into expanding their operations again.

Canadian, U.S. timber markets see same issues in different ways

Like a pair of fraternal twins, the timber markets of the United States and Canada don't quite look identical.

In the West, both sides cut conifers mainly for the U.S. housing market. The industries each revolve around huge swaths of public forest, and have boisterous debates about how to manage that landscape. Whole communities depend on the logging and milling business north and south of the border.

Will popular tax break for homeowners survive in 2017?

For millions of moderate-income homebuyers, there's an important money-saving question looming in 2017: Will Congress reinstate deductions for mortgage insurance premiums as part of its overhaul of the federal tax code?

Depending on your situation as a buyer or owner, it could mean thousands of dollars in tax write-offs. Mortgage insurance premiums are charged by lenders when borrowers make less than a 20 percent down payment. In one form or another, they are an integral part of all Federal Housing Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs and low-down-payment loans eligible for sale to investors Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. During the past year, 43 percent of all home purchases were made with down payments of 5 percent or less, according to analytics firm CoreLogic - often by millennials, first-timers and minority buyers.

ALL TREATED WOOD WARRANTIES ARE NOT THE SAME!

Viance Viance's warranty coverage includes Above Ground treated wood framing members that are critical to the safety and performance of the structure, including joists and beams. Recent modifications to the AWPA standards have created confusion, and the misconception that all deck framing must be Ground Contact treated; this simply isn't true.

Above Ground treatments remain code compliant for framing, including joists and beams, and should meet customers safety and performance expectations without introducing excessive chemicals into the environment, or to potentially increase costs unnecessarily. Compare other warranties to see for yourself.
