Growth in US home prices continues in March, reaching 33-month high

U.S. home prices rose slightly less than what was anticipated for the month of March, according to new data from the S&P/Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index. But the gains were enough to reach a 33-month high, climbing at the strongest rate in nearly three years.

This, as inventory of homes for sale remains "unusually low," the group said.

The Week Ahead: Immigrant Buyers Impact High End Market

On Wednesday, Zillow will release data on the effects international buyers have on the higher end of the housing market. Why the Construction Industry May Be Robot-Proof

The age of automation seems to be upon us. Robots are delivering food in San Francisco. Last week, I had an uninspiring lunch at a largely automated quinoa joint in Manhattan. Self-driving cars are developing by leaps and bounds. Even in China, factories are using technology to substitute for workers on assembly lines.

The rapid (and rampant) rollout of labor-saving technology has inspired fears of a dystopian future in which there simply won’t be any work for humans. By this line of reasoning, as software and artificial intelligence become more powerful, gains in productivity are inevitable. But if you’re skeptical of this view, you should look no further than a home construction site to back you up.

Freddie Mac forecasts more than 6 million home sales in 2017

A combination of strong job growth and low mortgage rates is helping to propel the housing industry towards one of its best years in decades, even as economic growth elsewhere in the country is weakening. That’s according to Freddie Mac’s latest Outlook report for May, which marks a change from the mortgage giants most recent predictions which stated that real estate wouldn’t perform as well as it did last year.

But Freddie Mac says March saw new home sales that were much better than expected. Meanwhile, existing home sales hit their highest level since 2007. As such, Freddie’s economists now believe we’ll see more than six million home sales in 2017.

With Markets Strong, Should You Delay Selling?

Our markets are roaring. Everyone’s doing great, and party confetti seems to fall like snowflakes every time you look at your monthly sales reports. Projections are that 2017 will continue to be a great year for our industry.

The noted housing economist Ivy Zelman recently said, “We believe that it is fair to conclude that national new home order activity has maintained a low double-digit growth pace in the early part of 2017, comparing favorably to an already- strong fourth quarter trend.”
