Baby Boomers Who Won't Sell Are Dominating the Housing Market

Jake Yanoviak is hunting for houses. On a weekday afternoon in North Philadelphia, the 23-year-old painter cruises along on his bike, its black paint obscured under stickers from breweries and rock bands. He turns onto a side street, where he spots a few elderly neighbors, standing on adjoining porches. He parks, leans on one handlebar and makes his pitch.

“Anybody on the block considering selling?” Yanoviak asks gently. “I’m not a developer, I’m not interested in renting to students. I’m just a kid trying to buy a house, fix it up and live in it.”

Building permits lag housing market, economic gains

Gains in housing market and economic gains continued in the second quarter of 2017 but building permits did not keep pace.

The National Association of Realtors/First American Leading Markets Index shows that nationwide markets are running at 102% of normal housing market and economic activity.

House prices are well ahead (152%) of normal while employment is at 98%. Housing permits for single-family homes are at just 54% though.

Won’t Crack Under Pressure, Even if the Concrete Does.

Mitek Our structural concrete epoxy is designed for anchoring into concrete that is, or may become, cracked due to cyclic loading from wind or earthquakes. It's also a high performance formulate that is very appealing for general anchoring into concrete and may also be used for fully grouted CMU construction.

The extensive testing data and high loads that GEL7C has makes it a best in class epoxy. Couple this with the design software and this gives the designers the confidence they want when designing concrete anchorage.

Do you know how much epoxy your job needs? Easily calculate the number of cartridges using the USP Epoxy Quantity Estimator.

Housing demand strengthens through summer, but here’s why some buyers are giving up

There is still plenty of demand for housing. Potential buyers, both young and old are trolling listings online and packing in to crowded open houses. But they are not rushing to write offers. The culprit may be sticker shock.

While buyers in June were still requesting tours at the same rate as May, 11 percent fewer were putting pen to paper on an offer, according to Redfin, a real estate brokerage which surveyed 15 major metropolitan housing markets. The same is true, however, throughout much of the nation.

These millennials are buying houses because they want their pets to have more space

When Erin Dreiling and her then-fiancé went house-hunting in Atlanta eight years ago, their Ciarn Terrier, Cozmo, helped them make the choice between townhouses with less outdoor space and a more traditional single family home.

Dreiling, who was 27 at the time, said she and her now-husband were keenly aware they were buying a home for Cozmo too. “We decided we needed a house with a big ol’ yard,” said Dreiling, who works in marketing. “One of our requirements was a big window to look out the window and walk some doggie TV. As a terrier, he’s really interested in watching small furry creatures.”
