58% Of Homeowners Think The Housing Market Is Set For A Correction--Are Bubble Fears Founded?

In each of the six months from December through May, the most recent month for which data is available, national homes prices set new highs. Home price growth has outpaced wage growth and inflation. So perhaps it is not too surprising that a new survey has found that more than half of homeowners expect home prices to decline in the not too distant future. Of 1,079 adults surveyed by ValueInsured, a provider of down payment protection, 58% agreed with the notion there will be a "housing bubble and price correction" in the next two years. That's up from 46% last quarter. Meanwhile, 83% of respondents believe it's a good time to sell.

With no U.S.-Canada deal, lumber talks to run parallel to NAFTA

The United States and Canada have failed to settle a festering trade dispute on softwood lumber ahead of talks to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but will keep the lumber negotiations on a separate, parallel track, officials from both countries said.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross had been pushing for a lumber deal before Wednesday's start to NAFTA talks to avoid complications from the decades-old dispute.

How Investment Bankers Get Paid for Brokering the Sale of Your Business

Investment bankers that broker the sale of your company have a fairly standard schedule for retainers and success fees. But there are idiosyncrasies and potential pitfalls to watch for. So, let’s take a close look.

The Retainer: Most investment bankers charge a retainer to prepare your company for sale, often around $50,000. The retainer pays for ongoing expenses to prepare the “deal book” a.k.a. informational memorandum or “IM”, that is used to shop the deal to acquirers. But the retainer should be paid out monthly (e.g. $10,000/month), not all upfront. In many cases (as is true with our firm, 1st West M&A), the retainer is entirely refunded to the seller in the event of a successful transaction. If the success fee turns out to be $250,000, the first $50,000 is refunded to you when the deal closes.

Texas Is Winning America's Homebuilding Race [Infographic]

Texas is leading America's homebuilding charge with Austin, Dallas and Houston collectively on pace to build 130,000 new homes in 2017. That represents more than 10 percent of all U.S. building permits this year and almost as many as 50 large metropolitan areas combined, according to new research by Trulia. By contrast, several markets in the northeast of the country will struggle to surpass the 500 mark this year.

One of the most interesting aspects of Trulia's data is how the current level of construction compares with the historical average, with the majority of the quick-building metros concentrated in the south. Austin, Texas leads the way, forecast fo finish 2017 approving 107.7 percent more residential construction than its historic average. It's followed by Charleston, South Carolina (82.8 percent) and Nashville, Tennessee (65.8 percent). By contrast, Allentown in Pennsylvania, New Haven in Connecticut and Worcester in Massachussetts are all set to construct 80 percent fewer homes than their historic average.
