Housing Policy? Not in This Debate

Despite their lack of discussion on the housing market during the primary debates and now the first presidential debate on Monday, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have expressed their stances on housing sporadically throughout the race.

Trump spoke at the National Association of Home Builders' 2016 Midyear Board of Directors Meeting in Miami, Florida and stated he believed overregulation was the source of many issues in the housing industry including the job growth.

Some of America's Hottest Housing Markets Are Cooling Off

The red-hot growth in home prices across the U.S. West is starting to slow in some cities as sticker shock and low inventory put off weary buyers.

Denver, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, have seen gains in real estate values moderate after years of double-digit increases, according to Zillow. A slowdown in the tech epicenter of San Francisco is becoming even more pronounced, with the median home value in August rising less than 1 percent from a year earlier.

Contractors Frustrated by Worker Shortage

Talk to any contractor in northwest Lower Michigan and you'll probably notice an undercurrent of frustration.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that potential construction projects are everywhere but contractors cannot take on some jobs simply because they can't find enough people to swing hammers. "I've got enough work to keep me busy through next year," said John Desmond, owner of Traverse City-based JD Construction. "But I don't have enough workers. I can't get applicants. I've been having a heck of a time."
