The Lopsided Recovery in the Housing Market

The quarterly economic treasure trove known as the Federal Reserve's financial accounts of the United States, released in early December, painted a rosy picture of Americans' finances. Household net worth rose to a new all-time high and home equity rose to just a hair below its level in 2006, before the housing bubble burst, the Federal Reserve data showed.

CoreLogic Predicts Housing Market Growth in 2017

Economic growth will be the theme of the housing market in 2017, according to theforecast from Frank Nothaft, CoreLogic senior vice president and chief economist. The economy will see growth between 2% and 2.25% in 2017 with increases in five areas, Nothaft predicted.

Homebuilders Super Happy But Not Building More Homes: Here's What's Up With That

At face value the numbers make no sense. A monthly survey of homebuilder confidence in December released Thursday from the National Association of Home Builders spikes to the highest level in 11 years. The one-month move, entirely attributed to Trumponomics euphoria by NAHB executives, was the biggest in 20 years.

One day later, the monthly numbers on home construction are released by the U.S. Census, and they tank 19 percent. So builders are super happy, but they're not building more homes.

Multifamily Decline Pushes November Housing Starts Down

A sharp decline in multifamily starts pushed overall housing production down 18.7% in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.09 million units, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Commerce Department. Overall permit issuance was also down 4.7%.
