The Rhode Island Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (RILBMDA) has named Ray Angell, Vice President of L. Sweet Lumber Company in Providence, R.I., 2016 Lumber Person of the Year. The RILBMDA Lumber Person of the Year recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the lumber and building materials industry as well as to his or her local community.

A graduate of Bryant University, Angell is the fourth generation to work at the family’s 131-year-old lumberyard. He has been part of the RILBMDA for six years and has a long family legacy in the LBM industry. His service on the RILBMDA board started in 2010, while he was still in college, as the Northeastern Young Lumber Executives (NYLE) Trustee. In 2011 he was elected second vice president, moving to first vice president in 2013 and elected RILBMDA Board President in 2015.

Angell’s accomplishments include championing the long-range strategic plan that the association adopted in 2013, adding an education component to monthly dinner meetings, strengthening relationships with the Rhode Island Builders Association and New England Tech, creating a marketing committee to increase the awareness of independent building materials in Rhode Island as well as the RILBMDA, and reviewing the association budget and sponsor programs to assure a solid financial future for the association.
