Bayou City Lumber Celebrates 20th Anniversary Serving Greater Houston Communities

By / 1 year ago

Bayou City LumberHouston, Texas—Founded in 1994, Bayou City Lumber celebrated its 20th anniversary this year—after providing Greater Houston and its surrounding areas with one of the largest and most comprehensive specialty lumber selections in the region, over the past two decades.

The lumberyard opened with a staff of only three—including its current owner and vice president—in a spot just across the street from the current location at 11106 Telephone Rd.

Today, the business is thriving, having grown into a staff of 17 and expanding to encompass more than 8 acres of land in the South Houston area. Recent developments include expanded trucking options and a new line of high-end OZCO-brand connector and fitting products for arbors, pergolas and other decorative outdoor structures.

Not everything has changed at BCL though, according to Director of Special Products Aaron Presley. The company remains built on its family-oriented and spiritually based principles of honesty and integrity, as well as its reputation for outstanding customer service and satisfaction.

“We continue to excel at customer service,” Presley said. “All of our salespeople are experienced and knowledgeable with the capability of helping customers decide what is the right material for their job and how to properly use that material.”

Initially specializing in treated lumber, BCL also remains committed to its dedicated mission of providing specialty products that are difficult to find elsewhere. Bayou City is one of the only lumberyards in the state that sells chromated copper arsenate or CCA-treated wood for use in saltwater environments and has also become the city’s premier supplier of treated/composite decking and railing, rough cedar and vinyl bulkheading products—as well as a variety of other materials specific to exterior-based projects.

“We’re a niche-type of lumberyard,” Presley explained. “Guys go to us for the hard-to-get stuff.”

One of Bayou City’s products, only available at a handful of exclusive specialty lumberyards in the region, is a comprehensive selection of certified, eco-friendly ‘Green Lumber’ materials. Green construction components are exceptionally difficult to find in the lumber industry, requiring individual certifications and an assigned Chain-of-Custody number, which together guarantee that the wood has been handled in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner “from the forest to the user.”

Bayou City Lumber is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council through the Rainforest Alliance. Located on 8.5 acres of land, which houses a wide selection of high-quality building materials, competitive prices are offered with convenient and speedy on-site pickup and shipping options available as well as delivery service throughout the Gulf Coast Region. BCL’s product lines include: FSC-certified ‘Green Lumber,’ timbers, bulkheading materials, fire-retardant woods, decking and arbor materials and various types of piers, poles and pilings. In addition to a diverse selection of lumber products, BCL also offers expert assistance and guidance from a staff of highly trained professionals with 100-plus years of combined industry experience.
