Do it Best Corp. Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Launch of New Member Programs

DoItBestCorpFORT WAYNE, INDIANA—Strong member attendance, an expanded Sneak Peek sales event and new program launches are combining to help Do it Best Corp. celebrate its 70th anniversary at the co-op’s May market, held May 15-18 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Do it Best Corp. is reporting solid market attendance, recorded in total registrations as well as member locations represented. These measures serve as key indicators of member-owners’ enthusiasm and confidence in the home improvement industry and the growing stability of the housing market. In addition, members are taking advantage of increased sales opportunities through the introduction of new programs designed to help them grow their businesses and increase their profitability.

“Even by our own high standards, we are particularly excited about this market and the many growth opportunities it presents our members,” said Do it Best Corp. President and CEO Bob Taylor. “Of course, celebrating our 70th anniversary gives us a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come as a co-op, while announcing these new programs helps our members capture the many opportunities ahead of them.”

Programs launched or enhanced by Do it Best Corp. at the May market include:

  • Ecommerce: Members are now able to sign up for their own customizable ecommerce website, supported by the powerful new platform.
  • Industrial/commercial: The industry-leading INCOM Distributor Supply division launches its new Do it Best INCOM Supply™ program, which focuses on offering its expanded product selection and market expertise to drive greater industrial/commercial sales opportunities for traditional retail hardware stores, home centers and lumberyards who may not have been in the category previously.
  • Store expansion: The powerful Retail Performance program introduces enhanced incentives to drive store growth, with customizable solutions for existing members looking to expand into new locations.

As expected, the strong attendance at the May market is helping drive both greater sales volume and bigger savings for members, especially during the very popular Friday night Sneak Peek buying event. In conjunction with the co-op’s 70th anniversary, vendors teamed up to offer 70 Buy One Get One offers at Sneak Peek, bringing total sales for the event to $6 million. Members use these popular high-margin items to drive traffic for promotions and special events throughout the year.

In addition to significant savings, members attending the May market are benefiting from a wealth of events and activities, including 30-plus Education Day seminars covering topics on data security, pricing strategies and customer loyalty. They are also able to build their knowledge with product and service demonstrations through the Do it Best Education Theater on the market floor.

At both its 2015 May and October markets, Do it Best Corp. is celebrating its 70th anniversary. The company began in Fort Wayne, Ind. as Hardware Wholesalers Inc. in June 1945. Since its founding – and its 1998 combination with Our Own Hardware to create Do it Best Corp. – the co-op is on track to surpass $3 billion in sales this fiscal year and serves 3,800-plus member-owned locations in the United States and 54 other countries.
