Fischer Lumber of East Alton, Ill. is celebrating 75 years of service this week, the Advantage News reports.
Fischer Lumber first opened in 1941 when C.C. Fischer and G.A. Fischer together purchased the Hale Lumber Company in East Alton, according to the company’s website.
The company expanded in 1972 and moved to a larger location including an 10,000 square foot showroom. Chris C. Fischer, son of C.C. Fischer, purchased the company in 1981. In 1995 the company opened a truss manufacturing plant.
Also in 1995, Chris C. Fischer retired. His three sons now run the company. David C. Fischer is president, James Fischer is secretary and Edward Fischer is treasurer. The company employs more than 90 people during peak seasons, 44 which are full time, the Advantage News reports.
Janet Spenser has been with the company for 40 years. She told the Advantage News that “It’s a caring place. We care about each other, and the Fischer family is a great family to work for. I think our customers think that, too.”
