Guardian Building Products Acquires Hawkeye Building Distributors

Greenville, S.C. — Guardian Building Products (GBP) has acquired the major business assets of Hawkeye Building Distributors.Guardian Building Products

Hawkeye Building Distributors is a two-step distributor of building material and hardline, roofing and millwork products serving independent retail lumber yards in the Midwest. Headquartered in Rock Island, Ill., the company has additional locations in Chillicothe and Joplin, Mo., as well as a millwork assembly facility in Rock Island.

“We have always admired Hawkeye as there are many similarities between our companies,” says GBP President and COO Jim Becker. “We serve the same type of customers and the majority of our product lines are the same, which makes this such a unique opportunity. More importantly, our teams mesh well culturally.”

As a result of the acquisition, GBP plans to add more than 300 customer accounts and 60 suppliers.

Hawkeye Building Distributors owners and founders Donald DeWulf and Carl “Butch” Stahler will join GBP after the acquisition.

“It was important for us to find a purchaser that was genuinely concerned about our employees and customers,” says Stahler. “We wanted to ensure the purchaser could maintain the service levels we built over the years—we have found that with Guardian Building Products.”
