MARCUS, Iowa—Marcus Lumber celebrated its 95th Anniversary with a Saturday open house to appreciate its loyal customers on July 11th from 8am to 3:30pm. The commemorative day allowed both new and existing customers the opportunity to get a glimpse inside Marcus Lumber’s 18,000 square foot showroom and shop special merchandise at exceptional values.

As a part of the day’s celebration, Marcus Lumber offered free sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks throughout the day. In honor of the anniversary Marcus Lumber had special anniversary coupons for 95 cents off common use items such as filters, trash bags, and softener salt. Several other product specials were planned for Weber Grills, Storm Doors, and select flooring. In keeping with the 95th anniversary theme Marcus Lumber held a drawing for a $95 Marcus Lumber gift card which was given out to one lucky customer every hour of the celebration. All patrons were welcome to sign up for the dozens of other door prizes available. In addition, customers were encouraged to bring their families with goodie bags offered for the kids and a bounce-house all available free of charge.

Marcus Lumber first opened in 1920 after Roger T. Leavitt of Marcus acquired the existing lumber and coal business. Roger guided the business for many years eventually making way for his two sons, Roger E and John Leavitt to take over the business. It was during this tenure that Marcus Lumber moved office locations and expanded its operations to neighboring communities. In the 80’s the third generation of family ownership started in the business growing and expanding its service area to all of Northwest Iowa. In 2005 Marcus Lumber moved into its present day 18,000 square foot showroom which was built a block away from the original office location in 1920. Now with its 4th generation of family members involved in the business.

Marcus Lumber is proud to celebrate this significant anniversary while welcoming the future years ahead.

Bob Leavitt of Marcus Lumber is a third generation family owner of who has worked in the business for 40 years. When reflecting on the past, Leavitt said, “While much has changed since the beginning, we are still a customer first minded service business. We still sell quality items and offer very dependable service. We are still committed to giving back to our local communities and very happy to be celebrating our 95th Anniversary with all the people who supported us through the years.”
