Rhode Island Lumber Dealers Donate 1,100 Pounds of Food
The Rhode Island Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (RILBMDA) collected more than 1,100 pounds of food and $700 in donations for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
“Rhode Island’s independent lumber dealers are committed to giving back to our communities,” explained RILBMDA President Maria Fratiello. “This outpouring of support from our staff and members helps to underscore the importance of making sure that no one in Rhode Island goes hungry. We have always been the leaders in providing shelter and our group is very proud to contribute to the state’s 11.8% of households with very low food security.”
The food drive took place at Rhode Island independent lumberyard locations throughout the state during the month of October. This is the largest donation the RILBMDA has made since launching the annual food drive in 2013.
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank distributes food to people in need through a statewide network of 167 member agencies. These agencies include food pantries, meal sites, shelters, youth programs and senior centers. The food bank serves 60,000 people each month.
