Chopin, LA – Martco L.L.C.’s plywood facility in Chopin, Louisiana, was recognized today by APA – The Engineered Wood Association as being the safest North American plywood mill in the APA safety program. Known in the marketplace as RoyOMartin-Plywood, the plant won the “Annual Safety and Health Honor Roll, First Place, Division 1 – Plywood” and “3-Year Safety Award 2012-2014, Division 1 – Plywood” awards through the 2014 APA Safety and Health Awards Program, in which 76 APA-member wood-product facilities across the U.S., Canada, and abroad participated. According to APA, “The APA Safety and Health Program is designed to be the premier safety award program for the structural panel and engineered wood industry in North America. It encourages and recognizes operational excellence with the goal of reducing injury and illness rates year over year.”
In a ceremony at the RoyOMartin-Plywood facility, APA President Ed Elias presented the awards, which he described as “the finest safety awards in [APA’s] plywood categories.” Vice President of Plywood Joe Mackay and Plant Manager Jeremy Burford praised all plant personnel for their dedication to safety, with Mackay stating, “These accomplishments only happen with a committed, engaged workforce.” He also commended APA for its safety focus.
“I could not be prouder of the RoyOMartin-Plywood team,” explained Roy O. Martin III, president and CFO. “It is true that our success lies in our people. We are committed to providing our employees with the safest place to work. RoyOMartin cares, not only about you, but about your family, and our ‘I Believe in Zero’ safety program is just the start of it,” he told those employees in attendance, which included various organizational leaders, members of the plant’s central safety committee, and others.
Based in Chopin, Louisiana, RoyOMartin-Plywood is one of the largest plywood-manufacturing plants in North America and employs approximately 700. Along with other RoyOMartin locations, it has previously earned accolades for its employee safety, health, and wellness programming from APA and other industry groups.
