Valley Distributors, Inc. in Turlock, Calif. has closed this week, according to the Modesto Bee.

The full-service lumberyard, door shop and hardware announced the closing on its Facebook page.

Customers chimed in with well wishes and disappointment that the business, which had been in the community for nearly 50 years, had closed.

“Thank you Valley Distributors for all the supplies to build our home 24 years ago. My brother Bill Pilger built our home. Thanks again for your years of service to the community,” one comment stated.

Another added: “Thank you for your company’s help while remodeling our ranch home. We truly enjoyed the convenience of a family owned business in our home town and we’re happy to purchase a majority of our remodel building supplies at your store. Valley Distributors will be missed without a doubt. Best of luck on your next endeavor.”

The Modesto Bee said that calls to the lumberyard were met with a voice message similar to the Facebook post.

According to the company’s website, Valley Distributors was privately owned by the Vierra Family and employed 25 people. The company was started in 1967 and started out with three employees, one of whom was current company president, Danny Vierra.
