Warrensburg, Mo.’s Economy Lumber Closing

By / 6 months ago

Economy Lumber of Warrensburg, Mo. is closing its doors after 52 years in business. The Daily Star Journal says the housing crash of 2008 played a significant role in the lumberyard closing. Owner Bryn Myers told the paper that “we never came back from that housing bust eight years ago.”

Housing market recovery in the Warrensburg area southeast of Kansas City, “came too little, too late,” she told the Daily Star Journal. Myers, who had worked at the business since she was 12 years old, ran the company with her husband, Jim Clear.  The company was founded by her father, Byron Myers in 1965.

Myers said she doesn’t have a final date set yet for the closing, but she will try to stay open until all the employees have found other jobs.
