By / May 14, 2018

A South Boston, Va. lumberyard is closing after a century in business. Boston Lumber Company closed May 12 and will hold an auction on May 19, the store announced in a Facebook post.

According to an article in the Gazette-Virginian, the company started in 1918 as W. S. Nichols Lumber Company, and is the oldest business in Halifax County, Virginia. The company has been in the Felton family for generations. Current President Raleigh “Leigh” Felton III, told the Gazette-Virginian that, “I look at it like this — everything has a beginning and an end, and there is a season for everything. I don’t think anyone imagined we would have been open for 100 years.”
