Q: When & why would you accept an appointment from a new supplier/ vendor?
A: I would accept a new appointment if they provided a superior product/price. I will not just switch vendors without significant benefit in price and/or service because it takes a great deal of time.
Q: What is the number one problem that keeps you up at night?
A: The sub-contract labor shortage that has been a reoccurring problem over the past few years is probably the biggest headache I currently have.
Q: What do you see as your biggest opportunity?
A: I see commercial work as a big opportunity. Part of the reason for this is because of the labor shortage. The general contractors who are doing commercial work are bidding small jobs at extremely high rates. I suspect it is because of the labor shortage. A contractor with a loyal sub-contractor following could have a significant advantage here.
Q: What do you wish LBM suppliers understood about your business?
A: I wish they understood the need to be responsive, service-wise.
Q: What building materials (if any) do you buy installed?
A: HVAC and electrical.
Q: Building Green is a growing trend. How does it affect you?
A: We’ve always built to a fairly high thermal standard, but the increased requirements of the building codes are causing us to do a few more things we wouldn’t normally deem beneficial from a cost point of view.
