Masonite Reinvents Built-In Mini-Blinds

New mini-blinds offer superior functionality to virtually eliminate common callbacks.

Masonite-Mini-BlindsContractors tired of callbacks for doors with faulty internal mini-blinds can rest easy thanks to a new offering from Masonite International Corporation (NYSE: DOOR), a leading global designer of interior and exterior doors.

Internal, or “built-in,” mini-blinds, which are enclosed between the door’s glass panes, have sometimes been problematic for the industry, with challenges including sticking blinds, slipping magnets, and malfunctioning cords. Masonite’s new mini-blinds were engineered with a new-and-improved mechanism that greatly improves product performance.

“As part of our integrated design process, we thoroughly tested this mini-blind, putting it through the paces with several thousand cycles of operation,” said Dale Mayfield, vice president and product leader for residential products, Masonite. “Those tests prove the durability and performance of our product.”

In addition to reliability, new security channels provide privacy when the blinds are closed. The blinds include convenient raise, lower, and tilt functionality on all sizes. In addition, an innovative dual-mechanism operator makes the blinds smooth to operate and provides more ease and versatility in positioning. The frame is tight to the glass for a superior fit and finish.

Masonite’s mini-blinds, available in white or tan, can be specified to fit virtually any configuration: 6-foot-8-inch or 8-foot doors, half lites, three-quarter lites, full lites, and matching sidelites. They can be fitted to a variety of door widths, styles, and needs. All blinds are available with a low-E option for 2015 Energy Star® compliance.

The new mini-blind is also a glazing option for Masonite’s new flush-glazed fiberglass VistaGrande™ doors, which forgo the typical glazing bead or lite frames, resulting in a streamlined appearance and a wider viewing area.

“Doors with mini-blinds represent a significant portion of our customers’ product mix, and they just want them to work,” Mayfield said. “We’re confident that our new mini-blinds’ design will not only look great but also perform exceptionally well.”
