NLBMDA Celebrates National Homeownership Month

Washington — The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) celebrates President Donald Trump’s proclamation that June is National Homeownership Month. NLBMDA is committed to working with Congress and the Administration on policies that help more Americans achieve the dream of owning a home.

Homeownership remains a priority for many Americans. According to the United States Census Bureau, the share of Americans who own their homes was 63.6% for the first quarter of 2017. Moreover, in a recent national Gallup survey, nearly seven in 10 non-home owners expect to buy a home within the next 10 years.

“NLBMDA thanks President Trump for ensuring that Americans enjoy a fair chance at becoming home owners,” said Jonathan Paine, President and CEO of NLBMDA. “Our members remain committed to their role in the building supply chain, which helps provide high-quality housing options to current and prospective home owners.”

Preservation of the mortgage interest deduction plays an important role in helping households of all income levels become homeowners. NLBMDA supports the tax incentive and opposes efforts to reduce or eliminate it as part of comprehensive tax reform.

Reforming burdensome regulations would also increase the nation’s homeownership rate. A study from the National Association of Home Builders indicates that regulations imposed by government at all levels accounts for 24.3% of the final price of a new single-family home built for sale.
